Bayesian Network

On the last 11th, we received the visit of Professor Carlos Maciel in the resumption of projects developed together with Professor Eugênio E. de Oliveira. Since 2012, professors have been working in partnership to analyze data involving the action of pollutants on target and non-target insects, such as pollinating bees.

Professor Carlos Maciel, from the Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering at USP – Campus São Carlos, has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Military Institute of Engineering (IME), and a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from COPPE-UFRJ. His history with Entomology began in 2011 during his Post-doctorate in England at the University of Southampton, where he met Professor Philip L. Newland, also a project partner with Professor Eugênio E. de Oliveira.

During his visit to the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), professor Carlos Maciel as a guest lecturer, gave a lecture to master and doctoral students in the Post-Graduate Program in Entomology (PPGEnt). The lecture entitled “Bayesian Network: General Aspects and Applications in Biological Sciences” took place remotely and can still be watched on the YouTube platform.

According to the professors, Bayesian approaches can facilitate the understanding of research data in the fields of Agrarian and Biological, improving the understanding of anthropomorphic impacts such as light intensity and electromagnetic fields in pollinating agents, insects and pests.
